Sorry for the absence. After a long day of work (and some hours commuting), I'm happy when I can put up the energy to knit, yet along update my blog.
I'm almost done with knitting the pink top (silly that the designers didn't give it a name). I would show you some pictures but my sister is away on camp, taking the camera with her.
After the knitting, and off course sewing, I still have to crochet the edges. Don't really know how to start with that actually. I know how to crochet, but I don't know how to do it on something knit. There's no real instruction given in the pattern neither. If anybody knows how, then don't hesitate to tell!
Speaking about crochet, I was wondering about on ebay, when I found these cuties.

If I had a Visa, I'ld order them immediately. Although, being made out of yarn, I wonder if they wouldn't get dirty rather rapidly...

I started my first day at my internship. It rained cat and dogs. And as I was sitting behind what will be my desk for the rest of the month, I heard the news. After New York and Madrid, London now has been the target of terrorism. I was so appalled, so many innocent lives again and why?
And it also scared me, I now have to use public transport every day around Brussels. Brussels, European capital, a perfect next target...
When will all those terrorists see that war is not the answer, how can any cause been seen as just when innocent people have to die for it?
I'm gonna knit a little now, it comforts me and closes out that big bad world for a moment...

Due to a recent heat wave, I didn't get much knitting done. I spend some days at my boyfriend's who lives at the seaside. Very handy :-)
And I don't really like the combination knitting and seasand.
But the high tempatures are gone already and currently replaced by rain and storm. So I'm back in action! I got some serious knitting done last night while watching Grease for the zillionst time. What can I say, I'm a sucker for musicals and Grease is the ultimate classic. Other favourites are Dirty Dancing, the less known Strictly Ballroom ( Baz Luhrmanns first movie by the way) and recent new comers Moulin Rouge and Chicago.

The back of the top is done and I'm making steady progress on the front.
I'm starting an internship on Thursday. I'm hoping I'll still find the time and, most importantly, the energy to knit..

Cat and mouse

After knitting a lot for myself, I decided to knit something for somebody else: my cat Trixie.
I got the pattern for a toy mouse from Stitch and Bitch Nation. This is also the first time Trixie got in contact with catnip, the result?
Well here we have the first encounter, still a little suspicious.

And then we had this for several hours.

All the TLC aka licking like crazy, resulted into a fluffy mouse.

But it's great fun to see her act like a kitten again. She's already pushing nine but she's still fit enough to attack a toy mouse over and over and over again :-)

Progress report

I started on Lucky from Stitch and Bitch Nation, my first lacy pattern. I'm about halfway with the back. Here's a close-up.

I'm knitting it with Phildar Dolcina DK. Which is, although consisting of most acrylic and nylon, a very soft and nice yarn.
Because I'm not really a one project kinda gal, I also started on yet another lacy pattern for a summer top from a local magazine called Libelle. My grandmother actually bought me this magazine, how cool is that!

I'm especially found of the cotton yarn used here. It's called Cheope and it's from Adriafil. I'm thinking about also using it for Hush-Hush from Creazativity.
Oh, and I'm kinda ignoring the Phildar sweater for the moment...

Ribbit

So as I said, I've finished knitting the Phildar sweater. I even seamed it. And then I tried it on...
Way too clingy on the shoulders. Horror, horror. There was no alternative then loosening the seams frogging the top row and knitting some more rows. Good plan, you say. Yes it was. Only one problem. Matress seams get well quite invisible when done (our at least mine do). Consequence: a lot of cursing and cutting the wrong threads. So I now had to rip out quite some more rows. Don't you just love it when stuff like this happens...
On a brighter side (and to take my mind off the green sweater horror), I started on Lucky from Stitch and Bitch Nation. I'm using the pink Phildar yarn, Dolcina DK, that I bought from ebay.
It's looking good so far, altough I only knit 5 rows. 2 mm needles, you gotta love it :-)

It's my birthday!

Friday was my birthday and I really enjoyed it (although I've got a rather bad cold).
Since I'm unemployed again, I had the day off. So did my mum and she made me pancakes. Pan cakes. My mother, the fan of deep frozen and quick and easy, made me pancakes from scratch. Miracles do happen.
Later that day my sister and my lovely boyfriend came by and we ordered Chinese (now that sounds more like my mother)
I got some great presents (nothing knitting related unfortunately):
my sister bought me a new wallet, 'cause my old one was falling apart.

From my best friend Kristel, I got a much needed relax packet (bad lotion, foot gel etc.)

And my boyfriend got my a giant orange pear.

Now I can understand that not everyone would like to get this gift. But I personally love it. Especially since I've already got an apple shaped ice cooler.
I's just a shame that the spoon that went with it is missing (It's a punch bowl by the way.) But that's vintage for you.
As a birthday present to myself I've finished knitting the phildar sweater. My last winter project. Of course it's 22 degrees now. oh well, just in time for next winter :-)

Happy Easter everybody! I hope the Easter bunny left you lot of chocolate eggs!
I'm sorry It's been a while, but I'm doing a temp job at an advertising agency. My very first job experience! Because it's closer to my boyfriend's home, I'm living with him at the moment. And he doesn't have an internet conection, which is pretty weird 'cause he's a webdesigner. Don't ask.

I however did have time to work on the phildar sweater.

So far I finished the sleeves and the front. Or so I thought. I kinda messed up the top so I've gotta rip it out again. Arrghh, hate it when this happens!

I'm also taking my first steps in the wonderfull world of chrochet. I'm making a triangular scarf. Altough the sudden change to spring will probably mean I won't be wearing it just yet. I promise to post some pics soon.

And i found a way to store my needles in the form of an old shuttle container that I weighed down with some pebbles. I think it lookes really good.

Here's my bunny! With just half a day of knitting (and an evening of sewing and swearing) he was my fastest project yet. And my cutest, although his bum is rather large :-)
Attention: no bunnies were harmed during the making of this although one rather filthy teddy bear died (but his stuffing lives on)

I'm making steady progress on my Phildar Sweater. The back is finished and so is one off the sleeves.
But because I'm not really a one project gal, I'm taking part in the bunny a long from Theresa. There are some great patterns here and there's an important message behind it too. Animals are not toys. Knit animals are.

I got a package in the mail! My very first e-bay purchased yarn. It's fluffy, it's pink and best of all it's a bargain. I'm probably gonna make a wrap with sleeves from it that I've seen on Rebecca online.

My sister asked me to knit the knittyville hat for her from Stitch and Bitch. Only without the ears which I think is kinda a shame, 'cause they look really cute.

The pattern asks for circular needles and dpn's at the end. So I went to my local yarn store, and to another one, and another one. But none of them had the circular needles.
So the adventurous gal I am, I decided to use just the double pointed needles )which I already got from the first store).
And there the horror began. The first problem off course was holding them. I feel very uncomfortably just letting two needles hang. God thank I don't have any small children running around! Then came the double seed stitch. And it was awful. I cursed, I swore, I just didn't throw my knitting across the room. Just as I was about to give up I had to switch to stockinet stitch. And what do you know, things were starting to look better, it wasn't so hard anymore.
I'm still no big fan of dpn's but I can handle them. A little.

I've started to work on my second sweater, it's a pattern from Phildar.

I'm not using the yarn they recommended because, well because it was expensive and the unemployed aren't exactly loaded.
And the other yarn was on sale. Easy decision. Now I just hope it's gonna look just as good with the substitute yarn. Here's a sneak preview.

So I've finished my very first big project, the Kyoto from Knitty!

This was fairly easy to knit but there was a lot of stitching involved, a bit more than good for me. Whoever thought that knitting also involved stitching? I surely didn't.

So I've blocked the front, back and the sleeves from Kyoto. I've also spend a whole funloaded evening seaming them together. And although I'm not the greatest seamstress in the world, the result isn't that bad. A few not so splashing yoins at the shoulders but my hair is gonna cover those up nicely...

TV and knitting

I don't know about you guys but I think knitting goes very well with lifestyleshows. Nothing better than doing some stockinet stitch while watching some dramatic interior makeover or seeing Nigella making a very tasty looking pavlova.
I'm still working on the Kyoto but I'm kinda bad at big projects, I've got a very short attention span (probably from watching too much television). So I'm knitting my boyfriend some mittens. The poor thing has some acrylic ones at the moment who just don't do the trick.

So here's a picture of the yarn I bought on sale. And yes I am aware of the fact that I didn't mention the violet mohair. That's because I just bought it on Friday. Which resulted in my sister saying that I'm getting obsessed with knitting. Obsessed, moi?
The job interview went okay. They said they would call so fingers crossed 'cause I really want this job. I didn't wear my new scarf however, temperature dropped and it was too cold to wear my new jacket. However the scarf is almost finished, it just needs some tassels.

Until a few weeks ago I thought a blog was some creature from outerspace and look at me now! My very own blog, who would have thought? Let me introduce myself: my name is Caroline and I'm from Belgium, land of chocolate and waffles. I just graduated as a graphic designer and I'm now looking for work. Which isn't going so well unfortunately... In an attempt to entertain myself (and make some cheap Christmas presents) I asked my grandmother to introduce me to the wonderful world of knitting. And, what can I say, I was hooked! And I never looked back...
